[Personal Experience] How much do the initial costs of a shared house and a regular rental apartment actually differ?

This time, based on my own experience of living in both a "share house" and a "regular rental property," I'd like to write about the differences in initial costs between the two.

How cheap are shared houses?

First, let me talk about the shared house I recently moved into.
One of the reasons I chose this place was the low initial cost.

Where I live, the initial costs are like this 👇
• Rent: 35,000 yen
• Common area maintenance fee: 15,000 yen (includes utilities, Wi-Fi, etc.)
• Deposit: 30,000 yen (partially refundable upon move-out)

Total: 80,000 yen!

I was truly grateful that I could start my new life with just this much.
No security deposit, key money, or brokerage fees whatsoever.

On the other hand, what about regular rental properties...?

This is what it was like when I was living alone in a 1K rental apartment 👇
• Security deposit: One month's rent (approximately 60,000 yen)
• Key money: One month's rent (approximately 60,000 yen)
• Brokerage fee: 1 month's rent + tax (approximately 66,000 yen)
• First month's rent (plus utilities): Approximately 65,000 yen
• Fire insurance and key replacement fees, etc.: 20,000 to 30,000 yen

Total: Approximately 27 to 30 yen...!

Adding moving expenses and the purchase of furniture and appliances to this, the initial costs alone amounted to nearly 40 yen. 😇

Summary: Share houses are recommended for people like this.
• I want to start a new life right now
• I want to keep initial costs as low as possible.
• It's a hassle to furnish and buy appliances.
• I also want to enjoy interacting with other people.

Of course, there are some things to be concerned about with shared housing, such as "securing privacy" and "rules," but I feel that the cost-effectiveness and ease of living outweigh these concerns.
